Mike McClure
Senior Pastor & Head of School

B.S., Business Administration, San Jose State 1999, Attended Calvary Chapel Bible College Murrietta.

Ten years ago the Lord put a desire on my heart to start a school which disciples future ministers and missionaries for God’s kingdom. When my children were learning classically at home, I knew what type of school was needed to disciple children to become world changers. Proverbs 22:6 states that we are to “train up a child in the way he should go and when he is old he will not depart from it.” With this mission, we opened our doors in the fall of 2011. It is my pleasure to lead and support Calvary Christian Academy through providing vision and upholding the standard of God’s infallible word!

I have been married to my wife, Brenda, for twenty years. We have six children together. When we are not working at church or school we enjoy time together as a family.

Jere Allen
Principal

B.S., Bible/Theology and Mathematics, Santa Clara University & San Jose Christian College.

Having joined Calvary Christian Academy in 2015, I have taught for over 25 years, Pre K-12. I embrace classical Christian education for two primary reasons. First, it maintains the proper goal of education, which is not to merely train good technicians or accountants, but to cultivate virtue and purpose in the lives of students. Also, classical Christian education is vastly superior to the modern approach to education because, through the Trivium, it utilizes the student’s natural developmental stages to produce a student equipped to both think and articulate great ideas. While these factors lead CCA into being an extraordinary school, the emphasis on being a discipleship-focused school to produce world changers for Jesus Christ most excites me.

It is my deepest desire to partner with families as we strive together to be legacy builders to the glory of God. I love teaching all types of math from elementary to calculus, but my accomplishments also include teaching Bible, engineering, Jr/Sr high school science, technology, and PE. Additionally, my background includes teacher training over all curriculum areas, parent training as a minister and seminar speaker, and corporate training for all design chain participants in various software applications including 3D CAD / internet collaboration. My wife, Crissi, and I have been married for 26 years, and we have two daughters, ages 24 and 19. I am most blessed among men with the amazing family God has provided me.

Laura Munguia
Vice Principal

B.S., Biology with Spanish minor, Santa Clara University.

I was blessed to have joined CCA even before our doors were opened back in 2010. Realizing what a rich experience classical education provides a child through beautiful literature, engaging academics, all in a challenging atmosphere that pushes them to reach their full potential, my husband and I knew that this is where we wanted our children to be and this is where the Lord was calling me as well! What I treasure most about our school is that all of our staff disciple our students hearts, pointing them to Christ, in as many situations as possible.

My husband and I live in San Jose and have been married for 12 years. We have three beautiful children two of which attend CCA.

Sarah Venable
Assistant Vice Principal and 7th/8th English, History, and Literature

B.A., Liberal Studies, Westmont College. Teaching Credential, Westmont College, 2012.

I have worked at Calvary Christian Academy since 2012. One of my favorite things about teaching is watching a child’s face light up in wonder over a new concept or idea they have learned or grasped for the first time. There is something incredibly special about helping to foster a love and passion for learning in the heart of a child—especially their love for God. Working at CCA allows me to share my love and passion for learning and knowledge with my students, while discipling their hearts and minds in the ways of the Lord. Truly, each school day at CCA is thoroughly steeped with the truth of God’s Word, and it is a joy to see and experience firsthand!

When not in the classroom, I enjoy a good book, taking long walks, and playing the piano. I also enjoy many different kinds of arts and crafts—from sewing and crocheting to sketching and do-it-yourself projects. My family is also a special priority and part of my life.

Jennifer Brenneman
Kindergarten Teacher

B.A., Shippensburg University; M.S. Azusa Pacific University

I am thrilled not only to be joining CCA this year, but also to return to CA - my first love! I have developed a love for classical education, as I have taught kindergarten for the past three years at The Geneva School of Manhattan. With 18 years of teaching experience nothing has compared to teaching in a classical school! It  is a joy to share God's love with my students, while forming and shaping their character and building a basic foundation for the love of learning.

I enjoy spending time in God's beautiful creation running, hiking, walking or biking. I love the beach and spending time with friends and family.
Sara Belisle
K Grade Aide and Day Camp Leader

This is my second year teaching at Calvary Christian Academy. I have a B.A. in Psychology from California State University, Chico.

I have loved my time at CCA, because I get the opportunity to walk alongside students on their academic journey and also as they grow in their relationship with Jesus. Each day, I see their face light up when they learn something new, whether it's a new concept in science or a new truth about God. It's such a joy!

I am newly married to my husband Colin. In our free time, we enjoy camping, hiking, and drinking good coffee!

Suzanne Westwood
1st Grade Teacher

B.A., Liberal Studies with Bible & Theology minor, William Jessup University. California Multiple Subjects Teaching Credential. While this is my first year at CCA, it will be my fifth year teaching first grade!

I truly believe God has prepared me over the last few years to come to CCA. I chose to teach at CCA because it is Christ-Centered to the core. CCA deeply cares about training and educating children in the Lord. It is my desire as an educator to provide a loving and nurturing environment for students to learn and grow, not only in academics, but also in their own personal relationship with our Savior, Jesus Christ.

When I am not in the classroom I may be found completing a fun art project, decorating for an event, playing a board game, spending time with my family, or traveling the world. June 1st of this year, marked the 25th anniversary of my childhood battle with cancer. God graciously spared me from cancer and has allowed me to live as a living testimony of His great faithfulness and sovereignty.

Rebecca Rummel
1st Grade Aide and Day Camp Leader

I am currently at De Anza College where I am pursuing a degree in Education.

I love teaching at Calvary Christian Academy because it is centered around Christ’s Love and God’s Truth. The faculty and staff have blessed me and countless families through their prayers, encouragement and friendship. The children and their families bring joy to my heart everyday. Even on the most difficult of days I am so thankful to spend my time teaching, loving and caring for the children at Calvary.

I love spending my time outdoors, hiking, reading and working on various art projects.

Julie Arndt
2nd Grade Teacher

B.S., Social Science, Westmont College; Multiple Subject Teaching Credential, San Jose State University; Special Education Credential, San Jose State University; Master's Degree, Learning Handicap, San Jose State University.

I have taught in public and Christian schools for more than 15 years. I choose to teach at CCA because I know that the Lord is the focus in all we do; and that the purpose of this school is to raise up the next generation of well-equipped christian men and women, who know the truth, and are able to live according to God's will.

My husband and I have been married for 16 years. We have one son who attends CCA and he loves it!

Angelina Sanchez
3rd Grade Teacher

B.S., Psychology with Child Development minor, Santa Clara University

I have 16 years of teaching experience, and I am excited to begin my 17th year teaching at CCA. The Lord led me to CCA this year and I am so thankful that He did. I absolutely love the Classical Christian education that CCA provides because it is academically rigorous while at the same time Christ-centered, nurturing, and it has the ability to take each student to their highest possible potential. It is my prayer that my students develop a deeper love for Christ, and a passion for learning.

My husband and I grew up in church together and have been married for 15 years. We have four children, three of which will be attending CCA in the fall. When we are not at work or church, you will see us supporting our children in the various sports that they play. Our family verse is, "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me." Philippians 4:13

Stacey Miller
4th Grade Teacher

B.A., History, San Jose State University. This is my second year teaching at CCA and it is a privilege to take part in the work God is doing here.

One of my favorite things about teaching at CCA is the loving, nurturing and Christ centered environment found here. I love encouraging students in their walk with the Lord and helping them discover their unique God-given gifts.

My husband and I have been married for 17 years and we have been blessed with three energetic boys! We treasure our time just being home together and we also enjoy going to the beach. We feel so blessed that our boys are able to learn and grow in the Lord here at CCA.

Tami Hays
4th Grade Teacher T/Th & M/W/F 4th & 5th Grade Aide

B.S. Health Education with Kinesiology Minor, California Baptist University.

While living in Bangladesh for two years, God prepared and fine-tuned my teaching skills as I served and taught young and underprivileged girls English, Bible, and how to share their faith.

I am looking forward to my first year teaching at Calvary Christian Academy as it is Christ-Centered, focusing on equipping, training, and discipling students to grow in their education as well with God. It is a privilege to be apart of this CCA family.

Outside the classroom I enjoy challenging hikes in the hills of our beautiful Silicon Valley, playing soccer with local semi-competitive players, and reading any book I can get my hands on.

Suzy Negrette
5th Grade Teacher

B.S., Bible, Theology and Christian Leadership, San Jose Christian College/William Jessup University; Master’s Degree in Education and Credential Program, National University.

I have been a teacher going on 11 years this coming school year. I have been with CCA since the first year it opened, over four years ago. I love teaching here at Calvary Christian Academy for many reasons. I love the mission, the vision, and the rich classical training and curriculum offered here. I love being able to train up these precious children to love and follow the Lord in every area of their lives. Character training and teaching to live out the Fruits of the Spirit is a big part of what I get to do every day!

I have been married almost 20 years to Vinnie Negrette who is a Youth Pastor here at Calvary San Jose. We have two children, who both graduated Junior High from CCA. Our son is currently a Junior and our daughter is entering college this year. Our family LOVES serving in the ministry together.

Mia McNamee
6th Grade Teacher

B.F.A., Communication Arts, Otis Institute of Art and Design.

This is my first year at CCA, but I have been dreaming of teaching here since it’s inception! With a background familiar with the classical eduction model, I’m very excited to be starting in the pivotal 6th grade year - guiding students into greater analytical and critical thinking skills.

What’s truly unique about CCA is the focus on Christ and the students’ knowledge and walk with Him. What more important subject is there? The ability to teach about Him and also couch the other subjects in the reality of His Word is an invaluable aspect of this school and makes all the difference in the lives of the students.

My husband and I have been married for 21 years and have been blessed by God in our walk together with Him. We enjoy road trips and love to swim and walk together and just have quiet nights at home. My time alone is mainly spend knitting, reading and bike riding.

Amanda Lubbs
Middle School Latin & Logic

B.A. Mathematics and French, Knox College, IL. Multiple Subject CLAD Teaching Credential, San Jose State University

It is always fun to watch God's plans unfold and my coming to teach at CCA was definitely His doing. I have many years of teaching experience here in San Jose. I have taught a variety of classes from kindergarten through 8th grade, in both public and private schools, as well as led professional development workshops. Those experiences enabled me to join CCA as an enrichment teacher in the fall of 2016. God has filled me with a fascination for languages, which makes teaching Jr. High Latin a blast. He gave me the privilege of guiding Jr. Highers through logical thinking methods in Logic class. Finally, He has allowed me to share my creative side through teaching Art.

My husband and I married 19 years ago while still in college. We have been blessed with two children and together the four of us love to embark on adventures. God takes us across town to serve friends, across the border to help ministry partners in Mexicali or around the world to visit family.

Abigayle Ashby
Art Teacher

I am currently studying architecture at West Valley College. I have had the privilege of being a set designer for a musical theater play and also participating in set painting at Tabard Theater and in many youth theater programs. My strengths lie in drawing and painting.

John Remy
Athletics Director & P.E. Teacher

B.A., Psychology and B.A., Physical Education; Minor in Athletic Coaching from the University of California. Lifetime Community College Teaching Certificate, YMCA Senior Director and Advance Fitness Certifications. I have been teaching and coaching for over thirty-nine years. This is my second year teaching at Calvary Christian Academy.

I feel called by the Lord to teach at CCA. It is important that we teach children to appreciate and develop their personal health and well being. The Apostle Paul tells us:
“That our bodies are the temple of the Holy Spirit and that we have been bought with a price. Therefore, we are to glorify God in our bodies” 1 Cor 6:19-20.
“We are to run the race to win the a imperishable crown” 1 Cor 9:24-27
“I have fought the good fight and finished the race. I have kept the faith” 2 Tim 6:7
We all have to learn and practice good stewardship with the body God has given us so we can be ready and able for the work He has prepared for us!

I have been married to Carol for thirty eight years. We have five adult children and three grandchildren.

Susi Lim
Librarian

B.A. Psychology and Economics. University of Washington, WA., Master of Library and Information Science (MLIS). University of Washington, WA.

Here at CCA, where literature is one of the hallmarks of its classical education, I cherish the opportunity to help our students discover a passion for reading. There is so much that we can learn about our Creator, heroes of faith, humanity, morality, and life from connecting with stories! I am also excited to introduce our young scholars to early research skills that they will need as they move up to higher level of education. What a privilege it is to be able to do all that in a Christ-centered environment. I look forward to helping these bright young minds use the truth of Christ to discern and evaluate all the information that comes their way.

My husband Jason and I have been married for 13 years. We have three children, two are attending CCA and one in CCA Preschool. Our children have been blessed with loving teachers and school staff, a rigorous education that use their natural learning capacity to the fullest, and most all a nurtured faith in Christ.

Christopher E. Adams
Music Director

B.M. Classical Guitar Performance / San Jose State University & San Jose City College

It is a pleasure to be serving my second year here at CCA as part of their music education. Having been involved in this private-school environment since Fall 2015, I've regularly been working as a music teacher and educator since 2008. I've been fortunate to have a background in worship music as well as other music disciplines.

I am very privileged to work at CCA for many reasons. Initially, this work allows me to nurture my calling in discipling those around me and pouring into their growth. Additionally, I enjoy interacting with all the children, spending time with the staff, and working specifically in music. And finally, it's fantastic to be in such a Christ-centered environment aimed at bringing God glory in all endeavors.

In my family, I cherish two siblings, two wonderful parents, and a little rabbit (who sometimes chews on our household items!). In my spare time, I enjoy taking naps, dabbling in audio-engineering, jamming with friends, or taking walks. And I almost never say "no" to a great meal.

Victoria Ashby
Drama Teacher

I grew up in a family of teachers and a family of Christ-followers. I made the decision to follow Jesus at a young age and teaching was just in my blood. So when I found Calvary Christian Academy, it was a great fit for me. I love the idea of not only teaching children educational material but teaching them how to follow Jesus at the same time. I began as a music teacher in 2014 and have been a drama and musical director for several productions.

Vinnie Negrette
Chapel Teacher

B.A., Bible & Theology and B.S. in Business (Management & Ethics), William Jessup University. Since 2010, I have been serving at CCA, teaching Logic for Middle School, and at Chapels for all grades.

I began Middle School teaching in 2007, with 8th grade Science and Math, and 6-8th Bible classes. Before following God’s call into teaching, I worked in the IT industry, as a Support Engineer. I joined Calvary Chapel in 2010 to head onsite IT and Jr High, and have transitioned to full time Youth Ministry.

My wonderful wife teaches Kindergarten at CCA. Our two children, Kirsten and Ryan, graduated from CCA and are both in high school. Our daughter is a senior and my son is a sophomore. We enjoy serving together, and traveling and the outdoors.

Chris Commandeur
Chapel Teacher
Gaby Rodriguez
Day Camp Leader

I am currently going to school at West Valley College and am pursuing a degree in Education.

Serena Schuler
Day Camp

It has been my dream ever since elementary school to work with children. My prayer is to make a difference in their lives by showing them God's love, and by teaching them the importance of developing good character at a young age. I believe that God has called all of us to be world changers, and that children especially have the potential to bring His light to our sinful world.

I am blessed to have been raised in a loving Christian family who have trained me to honor God in everything that I do. I will be attending West Valley College this fall studying Child Education.

Serving along side staff and students has been most rewarding here at Calvary Christian Academy. This school is an answer to prayer! The Christ centered environment and curriculum foster a culture rich in excellence. Last year It was a blessing to serve as part time teachers aide in 2nd grade. The love from the staff and students is palpable. I am excited to serve this year as the Director of Admissions and Registrar.

When I'm not working I enjoy family time and quite time reading and studying the Bible. I have been married for 15 years and have two beautiful children.

Brenda McClure
School Development

B.A., History with Political Science minor, San Jose State University.

It is so much fun teaching at a Classical Christian School, especially in the Junior High years. I was in Jr. High when I made a commitment to fully surrender to Christ. This is why teaching Jr. High is my absolute passion. It is so exciting to teach Jr. High students bible and history because they are enlightened and are able to get to the root of ideas, concepts and truths which help them in forming their beliefs that they will hold throughout their entire life! Our curriculum at CCA is living and works mightily in the hearts of those who are blessed to go through it. It is an absolute joy to teach these students at such an amazing school. Not only do I enjoy the students and curriculum, but I love working with the staff. At CCA we have amazing christian men and women who are committed to Christ and doing their best for His glory!

I have been happily married to Michael for 20 years and am blessed to have six children, which range from Kindergarten to 9th grade. We are so blessed to have all our children attend CCA. They have been so blessed and loved by their teachers and their growth both spiritual and academically is astounding. When I am not working at school, I love spending time with my family, gardening, sewing, cooking, teaching bible studies, and so much more!
